Yoga Teacher Booking Platform: A Case Study

One link. Everything a yoga teacher needs to run their classes.

Shala Studio is a booking and class management platform built for independent yoga teachers who need one shareable link instead of a stitched-together stack of Instagram, payment links, WhatsApp groups, and overpriced scheduling software.

The problem we set out to solve

If you're an independent yoga teacher running your own classes, your current setup probably looks something like this:

You post your schedule on Instagram Stories. Students DM you to book. You send them a Stripe payment link or ask for bank transfer. You add them to a WhatsApp group for updates. Maybe you use Google Forms to collect waivers. If you're more organised, you've set up Acuity or Calendly, but it doesn't really fit classes with multiple students. And if you've tried Mindbody, you've discovered it costs more than you make from a week of teaching.

The result is a fragmented experience for your students and administrative overhead that eats into the hours you'd rather spend teaching. Every tool does one thing, none of them talk to each other, and you're the integration layer.

For the bigger studios, this is fine. They have front desk staff and can justify enterprise software. But for a teacher running six classes a week across two venues, the existing options are either too basic or wildly overbuilt.

We built Shala Studio because we know this world from the inside, and we knew there was a better way.

What we built

The teacher profile

Every teacher gets a single shareable link: shala.studio/teacher-name. This is the only URL you need to share. Students see your bio, your upcoming classes, your teaching style, and a clear way to book.

No login required for students. No app to download. Just a link that works.

The booking flow

A student taps a class, sees the details, books, and pays. The whole flow takes under thirty seconds. They get a confirmation email with all the details and an add-to-calendar link.

For the teacher, the booking appears instantly in their dashboard. No manual tracking, no DMs to respond to, no spreadsheet to update.

Class management

Teachers see all their classes in one place. Who's booked, who's paid, who's on the waitlist. Add a new class in under a minute. Set capacity limits, enable waitlists, add venue details and what-to-bring notes.

The Explore page

This is where Shala Studio becomes more than a booking tool. Students can browse teachers by location, style, or availability. For teachers, this means discovery without marketing spend. For students, it means finding their next teacher the same way they'd find their next coffee shop.

The directory is the network effect. Every teacher who joins makes the platform more valuable for students, which makes it more valuable for teachers.

The thinking behind it

Why a single link, not a portal

Teachers don't want to send students to a login page. They want to share something in their Instagram bio or at the end of class. A single link that just works removes every barrier between "I want to book" and "I've booked."

Portal logins are for software that expects daily use. Students booking yoga classes don't need another account to manage.

Why teacher-first, not studio-first

Most booking software is designed for businesses with reception desks and multiple staff. The UX assumes someone's job is to manage the calendar. That's not how independent teachers work.

Shala Studio is built around the assumption that the teacher is the business. One person, possibly teaching at multiple venues, definitely managing everything themselves. The interface reflects that: minimal admin, maximum teaching time.

Why this isn't Mindbody or ClassPass

Mindbody is enterprise software sold to yoga teachers. It does everything, costs too much, and requires training to use. ClassPass is a marketplace that commoditises teachers and squeezes their margins.

Shala Studio is neither. It's a tool that gives teachers ownership of their student relationships and a fair discovery channel. Teachers set their own prices, keep their students' data, and pay a flat fee rather than a percentage of every booking.

Status and traction

Shala Studio is live and onboarding teachers now. We're focused on London initially, building density in the market before expanding.

The platform is fully functional: teachers can create profiles, list classes, accept bookings and payments, and manage their schedule. Students can browse, book, and pay without creating an account.

We're early, and we're honest about that. But early means teachers joining now shape what gets built next.

Why I built this

I've practiced yoga for years. I've trained with teachers who run classes out of community halls and rented studio space. I've seen the WhatsApp groups and the Stripe payment links and the "DM me to book" posts.

When I started building software for wellness businesses at Marketplace Labs, the yoga teacher booking problem kept coming up. The existing tools weren't built for how teachers actually work. So I built something that was.

What surprised me most was how much the small details mattered. The exact wording on the booking confirmation. How venue details display on mobile. Whether the add-to-calendar link works on Android. These things don't show up in feature lists, but they're the difference between software that feels right and software that feels like work.

Building Shala Studio taught me that the best wellness software comes from being inside the world you're building for. Not as a consultant doing research, but as someone who's sat in the classes and knows what teachers actually need.

The bridge to your idea

Shala Studio is what a focused platform looks like for one specific wellness niche. A single problem, understood deeply, solved without overbuilding.

If you have a similar idea for your studio, gym, coaching practice, or wellness community, that's exactly the kind of work Marketplace Labs does. We build custom platforms for fitness and wellness brands who've outgrown generic software.
